If Bobby Fischer Hadn't Died Last Year, He'd Be In Some Serious Trouble

The next time I post something, it will be my 200th post to this blog, and I'm trying to think of something to write to honor the occasion that won't score a ten on the lame scale. Like writing about grocery shopping. In the mean time, I can't help but share the latest news from our house!

We're expecting a baby!

Actually, thanks to Lakeview Urology, we're not, but for some reason, my grandmother thinks we are, along with a few others, and enjoys calling my mother to tell her congratulations.

Okay, so the real news here, (and we're using that term loosely), is that Cameron and Ethan have become chess buffs! I taught them how to play on Saturday night, and they played until I made them go to bed, then they woke up Sunday morning and started in again. They were playing before breakfast, even, and such a thing is unheard of for Cameron. He can't function properly in the mornings until he's had his trough-sized bowl of cereal.

I was worried that Andrew would be upset with me for turning them into uber-dorks, but he seemed pleased with their new talents. Cameron seems to get all the rules, and Ethan understands everything except how to move a bishop in a diagonal direction.

Sunday was almost entirely spent in a marathon chess tournament at the kitchen table. For once, I quite enjoyed listening to them attack each other. And I think I'll add pocket protectors and plaid neckties to their Christmas lists.

Yay for chess! That is really cool that the boys are enjoying it. I should play more often, I'm starting to get rusty on the rules!

All 3 of my boys play chess too. When we lived in Vancouver Alex and Ben were in a chess club. How nerdy is that? Then they had a tournament. Alex took 2nd and Ben took 3rd. Ben cried. They were in kindergarten and 2nd grade. They still play it to this day. Alex is very good.
