Kids get the best stories.

Yesterday, I was shocked to find that a neighbor of mine, who has a six-year-old, has never heard of the Mrs. Piggle Wiggle books by Betty Macdonald. Mrs. Piggle Wiggle was a literary staple in my childhood, and the discussion with my neighbor got me to thinking about the billions of books in the world, and how we all must have been shaped by different books in our youth. I was in love with many books as a child; The Boxcar Children, The Babysitter's Club, Heckedy Peg, The Witches, and many others joined Mrs. Piggle Wiggle in feeding my imagination. So I wondered what all of you remember reading when you were young?

i used to read a lot of dr.Seuss, beverly clearly, and little house on the prarie. One time I thought it would be cool to read a scarey book "The Amityville Horror." After 3 chapters I was scared half to death i promptly returned it to the library the next day. I haev never forgottent the terror I felt reading that book. Since then, i have never watched a scarey movie or read a scary book.

At different times in my childhood I read every Ramona book, every Babysitters Club, and every Sweet Valley High. I also loved Wait Till Helen Comes, Bedhind the Attic Wall, Island of the Dolphins, Harriet the Spy, Nancy Drew, and Mrs. Mike. We also had quite a few of the Mr. Man books when I was littler. My kids' favorite now (and also mine) is I Love You, Stinky Face. I read the Mom's part, and they read all the kid's parts!

Oh, so many books. Babysitters Club, Roald Dahl, and Sweet Valley High, even some stupid RL Stine books. But mostly I remember reading random mystery/adventure books - Long Live the Queen, The Gray Man, etc. I still can't go through a day without picking up a book at least once. I can't wait until my boys are big enough to graduate from the "baby" books and move on to the good stuff!
