I feel the need to follow my last post with something good, and so I "borrowed" this idea from Jourdan's blog, although, I have seen what she can do and I cannot hope to come close to her artistic talent, so don't get overly excited. But I'm getting ahead of myself.
I have been itching to learn a few new tricks, hand-made doo-dads and fancy schmancy this and thats. And what better way to redeem myself from all my follies than to give those things away? So here's the deal; leave a comment on this post telling me the best hand-made gift you have ever given or received, then on Saturday I will use random.org to choose two winners. What will those two winners receive?
Something hand-made by me. It could be home decor, a holiday decoration, or something edible. Anything at all - and there will be no trading allowed.
Because I intend to make something that I have never made before, it could be hideous and disgusting, but you must love it anyway.
I guarantee it's completion before Christmas. Hopefully sooner. (Even though I have only made good on one of the Ben and Jerry's questions so far. Sorry Natalie, I was trying to figure out the "print a pint" coupon, only to realize that the process is more complicated than that, so you're just going to get money in the mail for your ice cream. I haven't forgotten you. Erin, I hope yours was tasty!)
If anyone is still having trouble with commenting, send it in an e-mail and I will post it for you. To anyone who is thinking that they could also give away something hand-made on their blog, thus bringing joy, (or possibly laughter), to others, then leave another comment expressing your desire to do so, and I will give you a second entry. And then I will check your blog repeatedly to make sure that you have done so!
I think that's it. So leave your comments, and then consider hoping that you don't win. No, really, I'm sure the things I make will be truely useful or beautiful...or at least good topics for conversation. Good luck!

In years gone by, I had made Nativity figures set for all of my children except Holly. She was a hard one because she is a minimalist. She has less ‘stuff’ anyone I know. My set for her needed to be something she would be willing to keep. Sooo…..
My gift to her was the Holy Family, the three wise men, and a shepherd and sheep all less than three inches tall and modeled from colorful Sculpey Clay. The whole set fits into a small storage box and the fire-hardened pieces are nearly indestructible.
Hmmm... I have received several wonderful homemade gifts. A favorite of mine is also a nativity scene that my mother made me. It is little wooden pieces that are painted beautifully.
My sister in law also made me a giant framed collage of pictures from my childhood and my husbands childhood and all through the years growing up and our dating. In the center is a large clear piece of glass and centered in that is our engagement photo. Very nice. :)
I would love to promise a second comment that I would follow in your footsteps with this undertaking, but you know me, and you know I already have several unfinished craft projects hidden in my closet. :)
And don't sweat the ice-cream coupon - no worries!
Yes, my ice cream was wonderful, as all chocolate is. One of my fave things to give away is to friends and family who have a baby girl. I make a little ornametal thing out of white lace, pearls (not real of course), silk flowers, ribbon etc. The baby can have it tied around her wrist or in her hair on her blessing day, and again at her baptism, and then it ties nicely onto a garter for her wedding day!
My mom made a cresh set for me from wool that she spun, died and crocheted. Still gets me choked up every christmas when I get it out.
She won first place in the maryland sheep and wool festivel that year.
Funny you should talk about this. I seem to give away tons of things that I make, but really know very few folks that make "stuff", save my Mom.
I have been on a kick of using up pink yarn from an outing.......another story unto itself. But I've made 6 pink potholders.........have 2 left over, so whoever wants them they would be coming to you very soon in an envelope from Maryland, mind you you must give me the reason why YOU need them!
The best gift we have ever recieved and is forever embedded in our minds is a poem written & wrote by: YOU! And at the end I think there was an offering of tending to our little ones at the time. Of course, this was before you & Andrew had children. But, we have truly treasured that ridiculously funny poem for many years. Thanks.
so what is the poem?
and anyone in need of 2 lovingly made pink pot holders?
Heidi
